Starting in the blogosphere, Guido Fawkes details how the Winterton MPs have been doing ‘interesting’ things with their expenses, while Nosemonkey ponders the implications of Ireland’s vote on the Lisbon Treaty…
Next, The Independent reports that Government borrowing has shot up by half in the last two months, while the recent mini-retail boom might well lead to higher interest rates.
The Telegraph says that Barclays might well be turning Japanese, at least partly, as it flogs a chunk of itself to the Sumitomo Mitsui bank. Elsewhere, John Lewis is having a good long moan about the weather and fuel strikes.
Elsewhere, the BBC has news that oil prices might be creeping up again, while the TUC is claiming that paying women more will fix child poverty. (What’s wrong with just sending the little urchins up chimneys and down mine shafts?)
Over at The Times, China is facing riots over fuel price increases, as the FBI arrests two ex-hedge fund managers from Bear Stearns. (No doubt they could ‘BEARLY’ believe it. Arf!)
And finally, The Guardian is reporting on Hugo Chavez’s threats to cut off the EU from Venuzuelan oil, as the housebuilding industry makes its first faltering steps back to a possible recovery.
