First up, The Times reports that growth in the British economy has slowed to almost a standstill, while home sales in the US look even more unhealthy.

Next, The Independent says that Ford is trying to get Americans to love smaller, less petrol-hungry cars, while the number of new homes being built in the UK is also plummeting.

Then, The Telegraph has news that rat-catchers-to-the-stars Rentokil is looking a bit poisoned itself, as the HBOS/Halifax bank is due for a carve-up at the hands of JP Morgan.

Over at The Guardian, energy supplier Scottish and Southern is about to pummel its customers with another price rise, while teutonic reinsurers Munich Re are predicting woe as their profits wane.

The Daily Mail notes that most people wouldn’t even last a fortnight if they lost their jobs; and credit card companies are mugging their customers with ever greater rigour.

Meanwhile, the BBC has an expose on a dodgy buy-to-let firm, while EDF Energy is yet another utilities peddler that’s now mauling the wallets of consumers.

And finally, Guido Fawkes is gloating over the slow, painful fall of the New York Times, and by extension, the ‘Dead Tree Press’, as Samizdara ponders the implications of BP’s recent ‘problems’ in Russia.
